Nelson Dorta, PhD

Pediatric Neuropsychologist

Nelson J. Dorta, PhD, is a pediatric neuropsychologist in private practice in New York City, where he is also an assistant professor of medical psychology in child psychiatry at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He has particular expertise in developmental syndromes including autism spectrum disorders; learning and attentional disorders; and varied neurological conditions such as epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, and genetic disorders.

Dorta was the senior attending neuropsychologist and director of child psychology training at St. Luke’s–Roosevelt Hospital. He has lectured nationally and published papers in the areas of epilepsy, dyslexia, ADHD, and post-traumatic stress disorder. His epilepsy and dyslexia research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health.

He received his PhD in clinical child psychology from the University at Buffalo and completed his postdoctoral training in pediatric psychology and clinical neuropsychology at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School.
