Ellen Galinsky, MS, is co-founder and president of Families and Work Institute (FWI). She is a leading child development expert and work-family researcher.

She helped establish the field of work and family life during her 25-year faculty tenure at Bank Street College of Education. Her more than 100 books and reports include the best-selling Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs, Ask the Children and the now classic The Six Stages of Parenthood. She has published more than 300 articles in journals, books, and magazines.

At FWI, she directs Mind in the Making, an unprecedented effort to share the science of children’s learning with the general public, families, and professionals who work with them. The effort includes Seven Essential Skills Learning Modules now being implemented across the country.

She co-directs FWI’s National Study of the Changing Workforce, the most comprehensive nationally representative ongoing study of the U.S. workforce. She also co-directs When Work Works, a project on workplace flexibility and effectiveness in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management. The When Work Works project includes the National Study of Employers, an ongoing nationally representative study of the workplace.
